Heroes are usually linked to comic books and superpowers. From Batman and Robin, to Spiderman and Superman; these are heroes we believed we were when we were kids. These are some kind of heroes. For me, a hero is someone real, someone you grew up with, who molds your life in a certain way that makes you go in the right direction.
My hero is José Antonio Knight Hernández. To me and my brother, he's just Dad. He was born in a city called Ciudad Valles, in the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, the youngest of three brothers. His father is Joel and his mom is Emilia, but to me and my brother, they are just grandpa and grandma. My dad studied communications in Monterrey, Nuevo León.
Having the title "Hero" is not easy, but my dad earned it, he really did. Being a father, a husband, and working, all three at the same time is not an easy task. Having the ability to give time to each is something I really admire.
As a father, he's dedicated and encouraging; he gives the best of himself to make us succeed. I'm growing up learning from him, learning that there's no obstacle when you try to reach a goal, learning that if you want the best, you have to give the best of yourself, that everything you do, you need to be passionate about it to succeed. He sacrifices everything. He wants to give us the best education, the best values. He finds the time to go out as a family. My dad is trying to educate us the best he can, and I know he will. Besides, Rome wasn't built in a day, right?
Looking at him, as a husband, he is something I wish I could have one day. He has been marrried to my mom for sixteen years! And he's still there, by her side, not letting her go - something I admire. Today, divorce is at the top of the list. It's incredible how the love he has for my mom hasn't extinguished. He's caring and lovable, he really is. Wow! Many years have passed: a sixteen-year marriage, two kids, experiences, vacations, and the best--having a family dinner.
His job is something he's passionate about. He has three jobs, all related to what he studied: communications. To me, his number one job is being a TV Reporter in sports. He appears every weekday telling sports news on TV. I love that I grew up in the TV station, and one day I'll be there. He's also the sports editor for the local newspaper. This a tough job, having to wait every day until almost midnight. Waiting until every match is over is tiring and he does it because he really likes it. He's passionate about it. On the other hand, having the opportunity to transmit your knowledge to students is remarkable. He's also a teacher; he teaches journalism at the university.
Yes, my dad is my hero! Maybe he didn't save someone's life, but he's saving mine from going in the wrong direction. He does everything he can to help his parents. Now it's time to say, "In sickness and in health he's always there for everyone."
You are loved and admired by many. Never forget that. Thanks dad for being there, thanks for being my own superhero. Thanks for loving the family.
