Florence Griffith Joyner

She is not just a woman she is the wind!!!!

Floence Griffith Joyner was one of the greatest athletes of all time. She was born December 21, 1959 in the city of Los Angeles and began track at the young age of 7. At the age of 14 she won the Jesse Owens national youth games. She recevied her education at Jordan High School where she set records in the sprint and the long jump and then she furthered her track career at the University of California, Los Angeles. Ms. Joyner had her own business desighing clothing and shoes for a company called Saucony. Ms. Joyner was the seventh of 11 chidren raised by a school teacher mother. Ms. Joyner's full name is Delorez Florence Griffith Joyner. Therefore her mother gave her the nickname DEE DEE so people would not get confused. Ms. Joyner got older and she got married to a track star. His name is Al Joyner. They had a daughter and her name is Mary Ruth.

Florence Joyner had many medals in her life. At the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, she wond the gold medal in the 200 meter dash. At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, she won a silver medal in the 200meter dash. Her world championships in 1987 in Rome in the 4 X 100 meter relay, she got a gold medal. In 1987 in Rome in the 200 meter she got a silver medal. Her main achievements she graduated from Jordan High School in Los Angeles in the year of 1978, and she went to California State University at Northridge for 2 years. Then she grauated from there in 1983 with a degree in psycholgy. She married track star Al Joyner on October 10, 1987. They now have a daughter name Mary Ruth. At the 1988 olympic trial she ran the three fastest 100 meter time ever by a woman and set the American record in 200meter dash. She captured three gold medals at the 1988 seoul games.

Florence Griffith Joyner died on September 21, 1998 in Mission Viejo, California. She died in her sleep at her home.
