Ken Block

by Wyatt from Riley

Ken block is mostly known for his world rally racing career, but he has done much more exciting and inspiring things in his lifetime. Ken has taken many risks trying to start his own business in the sports clothing industry. He has been into extreme sports from a young age.

Ken block was born on November 21, 1967 in long beach California. He was an entrepreneur of sorts, he started printing his own t-shirts while he was still in community college at the age of 19. By the time he was 22 he started eightball clothing company with his friend Damon Way. Eightball clothing eventually grew into DC shoes, A clothing company for skaters, snowboarders, and other extreme athletes.

DC shoe thrived and grew during the early years. It started off in the family garage, but it quickly moved into its own office space in 1991. Danny Way started their company's retail network at the local surf and skate shops. The company ran its own magazine from 1993-1995. Ken Block got endorsements for DC shoes from pro skaters and snowboarders. Eightball clothing didn't truly become DC shoes until 1994. Their early endorsements included a snowboarding team, rally cross team, and a surf team. The company's current team includes ken Block, Dave Mirra, Travis Pastrana, Danny Way, Josh Kalis, Nick Dompieere, Wes Kremer, Evan Smith, and Robbie Maddison. Ken Block and his business partners sold DC shoes in 2004.

Once Ken Block sold his part of DC shoes he made a career change. Ken wanted to drive competitively for quite some time but he didn't have the opportunity to while he was working with DC shoes. By 2005 he had a specially built Subaru WRX from the Vermont Sportscar team. He got fourth overall in his first year of driving in the Rally America championship. He also got the rookie of the year award. By the end of his third year racing, he was well established in the rally racing scene. Ken got the opportunity to join the monster WRC rally team, in 2007 he competed in both the WRC and he Rally America championship, He got first place in both championships that year. The partnership with monster also led to the filming of the first Gymkhana video.

Ken block started working on his company at a very young age. He was always into extreme sports. Ken Block would make a great role model because he is/was an entrepreneur who worked very hard to start his own company. He was very motivated and he always work hard to achieve his goals.
