Kathy Stinson is the author of over 30 books such as Red is Best and Becoming Ruby. She grew up Toronto, Ontario. Mrs. Stinson was born on April 22, 1952. She is married to Peter Carver. She has four children who are grown up and moved out, (two are her own, and two are her stepchildren). Kathy also has 5 grandchildren. Before she wanted to be an author she sorted mail, taught elementary school, waited tables, had two children, and held preschool classes at the YMCA.

When she decided that she wanted to be a writer she wrote two of the first books for preschoolers published in Canada. Kathy has won the IODE Award (the IODE award is handed out to encourage the publication of books for children between the ages of 6 and 12 years). As well Kathy has been to England as part of the first international exchange of Canadian and British children's authors organized by The Canadian Children's Book Centre in 1987. In 1989 she was Writer-in-the-Library in the East York Public Library system in Metropolitan Toronto. She has also led advanced writing workshops at the Canadian Children's Book Centre since 1994.

Presently Kathy lives a hamlet near Guelph. Currently Kathy works online with student writers across Canada through the Writers-In-Electronic-Residence program; as well Kathy is working on a biography.
Kathy Stinson is a great Canadian writer, all Canadian should read her book and know that red is the best!
