Ken Taylor Web (I made it) |
Ken Taylor was born in October 5, 1934, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He was a Canadian ambassador to Iran. Ken helped six American hostages, risking his own life in order to save them. He gave them fake Canadian passports to make the Iranians think they were Canadians during the Canadian Caper. He got the passports by calling Prime Minister Joe Clark.

The Iranians invaded the American Embassy on November 4, 1979, and this event is referred to as the 'Iran hostage crisis.' During the riot, six Americans escaped. They hid for four days, until they reached the Canadian Embassy, where they met Ken Taylor, who had devised the plan to get away from Iran safe and sound. The other hostages were released in January, 1981, on the last day of U.S. Prsident Jimmy Carter's term in office.

Returning from Iran, Taylor was appointed Canadian General-Counsel to New York City. In 1980, he was made an officer of the honorable Order of Canada, and was also awarded the United States Congressional gold medal that same year.
Ken Taylor completed his undergraduate studies at University of Toronto. He was a member of the Sigma Ki fraternity, and has since been honored with its highest award, the Order of Constantian. He went back to University of Toronto for several years as the Chancellor of Victoria College. Ken Taylor is still a Canadian, but I believe he lives somewhere in New York.
