Laughing man

by Emma from Pickerington

My definition of a hero is someone with courage. Also you can trust them, they are also honest, and they are helpful to others. Finally I think a hero needs to be able to live up to mistakes he/she makes.

Do you need heroes? Everybody needs heroes. Heroes inspire you to do things that you normally couldn’t on your own. They are there for you whenever you need them to be. If you didn’t have a hero you wouldn’t have someone to look up to. They teach you things that you can’t learn on your own. This is why I think it’s important to have heroes.

The character that portrays characteristics of a hero is “the laughing man”. Miranda had said “…like those naked guys - the ones running down the street the days we had to eat lunch in the school cafeteria, and the one I saw flickering in and out before the accident - they were all you, learning how to get here. “Earlier in the story she had talked about how the cops were after him. So he must have know he was in danger at that point of time, thus he had a lot of courage. Another reason he is a hero is because he is apologetic. “I apologies for my terse instructions.” He knew what he had asked Miranda to do would be hard but he was still sorry for it and he could live up to his mistakes. Finally one more characteristic of a hero is he is a lifesaver “You saved Sal’s life”. Any person that can save someone else's life in my book is a hero.

What do you think when you hear the word hero? I think of someone who isn’t afraid of anything. That’s exactly how “The laughing man“ is. He was willing to do it anyways. He goes above and beyond any other heroes. Most just know they're in danger but he knew he was going to die. That didn’t stop him, he wanted to save someone’s life even if it took his own. Every day he went through torture from the kids on the street. From reading this story he is a person I would look up to. That is why he should be inducted into the hero hall of fame.

1. Who is your hero? My hero would be Julia she was the one person who showed me I wasn’t alone in the world

2. Do you think you are a hero? No, I saved his life because it was the right think to do I hurt him when I didn’t even know him and I owed him.

3. Do you think is important to have heroes? Yes if I wouldn’t have had Julia as my hero i would have never got pushed to make a time machine and I would have never been able to save Sal’s life.

4. Do you think there is a difference between a hero and a role model? I think it depends who you are I don’t consider myself a hero but I would hope people could look up to what I did.

5. Do you think you need to be a hero to your enemies? Yes I do, I know me and Sal weren’t the best of friends but I knew I had to help him because if some new I was going to die when I was little I would hope they would have tried to save me even if I didn’t know them all that well.

6. What qualities do you think is most important in a hero? I think the quality of being ready for anything and everything at any point is the most important because you don’t know when things are going to happened and you don’t want to make a mistake if your not ready.

7. What would be a quality you would frown upon if someone was said to be considered a hero? I would say I'm not sure I've done a lot of things that people wouldn’t say are very hero like but I did them because it was the only way I was going to be able to do what I needed to do.

8. What is one thing you wish she could have changed about the task you were doing? I think I would have tried to make Miranda less scared. It probably would have been easier for her to write her letter if she was less scared.

9 What is the most valuable lesson you have learned from everything? That things are meant to happen for a reason, people do things so other people can become someone else's hero.

10. If you were allowed to tell your hero one last thing, what would it be? It would be I'm happy they could inspire me to help someone else like she had helped me.
