Lucy Maud Montgomery |
Lucy Maud Montgomery is a very popular writer.
Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on November 30th 1874. Her mother died when she was about two years old. She was sent to go and live with her mother's parents in Cavendish Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.). She did have an imaginary friend and also a house FILLED with lots of books. She loved to read. Maud worked as a teacher but did not enjoy teaching. She continued to teach because it gave her time to write, which was her first love, and she was able to pay her bills.
Lucy Maud Montgomery published her first book when she was 34. Her first book was called Anne of Green Gables. It was published in June of 1908. She had no idea it would be so great. People of all ages and even other writers wrote to her to let her know how much they enjoyed the book. She wrote 8 more books about Anne. The last one was written in 1939.
Lucy Maud Montgomery was married at 36 years old to Ewan McDonald, who was a minister. Her first son was born when she was 37 (Chester Cameron) her second son when she was 40 (Ewan Stuart). She lived in Ontario, but she loved writing about where she loved. On April 24, 1942, she died and was buried in little Cavendish in P.E.I. Her husband died two years later.
She published 20 novels and 500 short stories and poems. Many of them took place on P.E.I so, the Canadian province become a landmark (a place that people recognize) for readers and writers. I chose her because I like reading a lot. I would like to read her novels about Anne. And guess what? My mom has the box set at home. Lucy Maud Montgomery is a hero because she did not give up even though her books were not perfect the first time.
