Louis Riel

"I am more convinced everyday that without a single exception I did right. And I have always believed that, as I have acted honestly, the time will come when the people of Canada will see and acknowledge it." Louis Riel

In Canada's history there are multiple heroes who have done their best to fight for different causes, each as important as the latter. A hero is someone who makes changes or fights for a state, nation or country. A hero can also be a fictional character, like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, Captain America and many other creations. Louis Riel is my choice of a hero because he was a good man that made changes in Canada, starting with Manitoba. Louis led his people against bad government and other problems. He fought strongly for good things and good change, and someone who has the guts to fight like that should have the honour of being known or being given the title of a hero. As a hero, Louis was never forgotten and is and will always be a hero.

Louis Riel was born in Manitoba, on October 22nd, 1844. His parents were named Louis Riel, Sr. and Julie Lagimodière. He had 6 brothers and sisters all together. Louis Riel didn't really have hardships growing up, and was a studious pupil. Louis Riel was not just a hero to the public; he was a hero in his private life. Louis had a family, including a wife whose name was Marguerite Monet, three kids respectively named Jean-Louis, Marie-Angelique as well as a boy who unfortunately died at birth. For his kids and wife, Louis was a hero, a bigger hero than all.

Louis Riel had multiple qualities, like the leadership that it took to lead the metis towards their rights in Manitoba and later, Canada itself. His pride in being a French metis helped him fight for his and peoples' rights throughout his life. He was able to solve problems, for instance, when he managed the settlers in the Red River settlement and finally, the determination for always working hard for what he wanted, charisma for caring about society, himself and his family, and the ability to unite people of different nationalities and backgrounds for going against the government to deconstruct unfair rights issues.

Louis Riel was known and named a hero for the actions he made. The biggest accomplishment he did that earned him the name of Canadian hero is that he founded the province of Manitoba, he was a metis and he led a resistance on behalf of the rights being declined to identify as metis in the province of Manitoba. In which he led to equality rights throughout Manitoba and Canada, rights for all. To do all these heroic actions he had to do hardships such as making groups/hordes of people riot against rights and rules that were controlled by the government and were unfair to many people. For these actions, he was sent to prison and later on was beheaded. Since then, Louis Riel was never forgotten for who he was, what he did and what he stood for. He was honoured for long after his actions and still today is not forgotten and still seen as what he was: a hero.

To conclude, I personally think that Louis Riel is one of the greatest heroes in existence, specifically in Canada. Without his actions, Canada would be entirely different from what it is today for the blacks and other races. Without him Canada would not be a free country as it is today. Louis Riel is a hero, a Canadian hero that countered against bad governments and we should be proud of him. After all, Louis Riel is one of the greatest heroes in existence and he did deserve the title of hero.
