I chose my mom, Lisa Schmitz, as my hero because she is a loving, dedicated mother who never gives up. She was born, just like any ordinary baby. She was delivered at Miller’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Lisa grew up in North St. Paul and now lives in Hastings, Minnesota. She went to Harmony Elementary School, John Glenn Junior High and North St. Paul High School. These were good public schools that shaped my mom into who she is today. Their family went to St. Peter’s Catholic Church in North St. Paul. This church is where my mom received all her first Sacraments, including being married there.
Lisa was involved in many activities such as working for the ski patrol at Trollhaugen Ski Area where she helped injured skiers and kept others safe. She also biked the MS150 from White Bear to Duluth, Minnesota, and raised $1500 for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. She was involved in the Girl Scout program and finished as a Cadet. But my mom would say her biggest accomplishment is her three kids and her favorite one of all is John (at least I think so)!
My mom’s parent’s names are Janet and Richard. She also has two loving sisters, Barbara and Jean. The three sisters grew up with pets that included Brownie the rabbit and Scruffy the poodle dog. Their vacations consisted of spending two weeks every summer with their grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins. In addition, they traveled to the World’s Fair in Spokane, Washington, Niagara Falls, Mackinac Island, Mount Rushmore and many more fun places.
After attending the Minnesota School of Business to major in accounting, she had to leave school after a year for financial reasons. She started at US Federal Credit Union in 1983 and is still there 26 years later. Her “fun job” as she calls it, is at Treasure Island Casino were she works in the bar department. She enjoys the people she works with, the bright lights, loud noise, and the excitement that seems to fill the air. She is always hoping that a big jackpot winner will share their winnings with her.
Princes Diana was someone she always admired. I didn’t know who she was but found out she had been married to Prince Charles. My mom admires her because she was a great family person. She also taught her kids how to respect others.
I chose my mom to do a biography on for various reasons. She is a loving person, hard worker and committed to her family. She likes to spend lots of time as a family on vacations, camping, and eating supper together. My mom set a good example of showing kindness to other people, helping out as needed and, best of all. likes to win in a game of cards.
For the first eighteen years of my life my mom is responsible for me. I hope that when I venture out in life, I take with me great memories and know how to make good choices. A frequent quote of my mom’s is, “Make good choices, as one bad choice can effect your whole life.”
