Laura Secord

by Iman from Ottawa

I am a woman who walked 32 kilometers, while my legs and knees were bleeding, in order to save Canadian and British soliders. Do you know who I am? I am Laura Secord, a famous Canadian hero.

Laura Secord, on her way to warn the British

One night, during the war of 1812, American soliders were occupying my home. When I served them dinner, I overheard the Americans planning an attack on the British. When I heard their plan, right away, I knew what I had to do. I told them that I was going to visit my sick brother, but actually I was sneaking off to warn the British. If I were caught, I would be shot as a spy. I walked and ran all night long. After this long journey, my bare legs and knees were bleeding.

Finally, I saw some British soliders, and told them I really needed to give a note to Fitz Gibbon. They didn’t belive me, so I told them what I’d heard. Then they believed me, and helped me see Fitz Gibbon. When Fitz Gibbon heard what I had to say, he got ready for the battle.

I was born at Massachusetts, in September of 1775. I spent my early childhood in the midst of the American Revolutionary War against the British. I died of old age, at 93.

I am courageous, because when I overheard the Americans planning an attack on the British, I took amazing action in order to warn the British.
