Lee Sun Shin in history book (http://www.dragon5.com/news/image/2004101201.jpg) |
Did you know that he grew up in Asan, South Korea (mom’s home). So at Asan, there is a big statue of him. In August of 1572 at the age of 28, he applied for a military officer examination, but he fell from his horse so he had to forfeit. Lee Sun Shin is my hero because he is brave, smart and he has a good respect.
Lee Sun Shin is a brave commander of Korea. Because he is brave, all Japanese were very scared of him and he killed hundreds of thousands of Japanese troops from Korea Japanese war. He defeated the Japanese forces by destroying 42 Japanese ships in the naval battles of Okpo, Happo and Jeokinpo with a turtle boat. He always won his battles.

Lee Sun Shin is also smart. He is smart because he was the first person to make a warship able to fire cannons in any direction. The warship had a round roof covered with spikes to stop Japanese soldiers from boarding. He won the war all because of his brilliant idea. When Korea was at war against China and Japan, Lee Sun Shin didn’t rest. He continued his best efforts to increase the fighting power of the Korean navy by recruiting and training soldiers, building arms and battle ships, reserving gunpowder and securing the guard.
He also is respected for his good leadership. He always loved his country and its people, especially the people that sacrificed their lives to protect Lee Sun Shin. He died by one Japanese soldier. Japanese soldiers shot the gun and the bullet went into Lee Sun Shin’s heart. Before he died he said, "Do not tell to Japanese soldiers that I am dead”. This word is not that famous but people know this word.
