Many young people look up to celebrities as idols and want to be just like them. However, most celebrities aren't necessarily a good influence for them. There are celebrities who do want to shine a positive light on this world and be inspiring for today's youth. Lilly Singh is that type of celebrity. A youtuber for 7 years, with her two youtube channels, Singh has racked up 2 billion views. She may seem like every other youtuber, but she is actually an inspiration to all. Singh grew up in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. As a child, she was a tomboy and didn't feel like she fit in with her peers. She went to York University for her psychology master, but was struggling with depression and needed to get out of it. She decided university wasn't for her so she went on to become one of of youtube's biggest creators under the name of "Superwoman". She came up with this name after receiving a ring with the letter S on it. In 2010, she uploaded her first video and from there, continued to grow her channel. She has accomplished many things in her life, such as going on a world tour (twice), releasing a book, and starting a campaign for girl love. A hero must possess bravery and positivity. In order to be brave, a hero must be willing to take risks and go out of your comfort zone. A hero must also be positive by spreading happiness to others. Lilly is much more than just an average youtuber. She is brave, she spreads positivity, and she is an inspiration to all.

Lilly Singh is an extremely popular and outgoing youtuber with tons of fans. Before her youtube career she went through many struggles, like depression. Since she was brave she decided to open herself up to youtube, even though it would be tough. "She had struggled with depression in the past and had posted a video about her experience. Singh said it was difficult to tell her fans about her depression, "But the  reason I started making videos was because I was coming out of depression" ("Lilly Singh." Gale). Singh was going through a rough time in her life when she had depression. She decided to dive deep into the world by posting youtube videos. It was very tough to do that at such a low time in her life,  but she was brave enough to get herself out of depression, built a career, and find happiness. Someone personal to Singh stated in an article from Adweek "She talks about real issues and represents the not always shiny side of what's going on" (Laurenjohnson). This was said by Shannon Pruitt, president of Dentsu Aegis. Singh honestly tells her audience the truth and never sugar coats it. Other people don't usually want to keep it real, unlike Singh. It takes a lot of bravery to be able to share your true self to the whole world. By being brave, Lilly Singh will always be true to her audience. In Singh's book she includes sections that are diary entries from a rough period in her life. "I've included a feature entitled: "Out of the Blue." These sections are very important to me because they describe a time in my life when I was fighting depression and also allow me to highlight a moment from my post-depression" (Singh xii). These sections Singh has put in her book are from a dark time in her life. Most people would be too afraid of what others might think of them, but not Singh. Singh sharing these personal stories with us demonstrates her bravery. In an article it says how her parents weren't completely supportive at first of her decision to not take the safe path in her career but instead she decided to do something risky. "at first her parents were not entirely sure about her sacking off her Psychology Masters for an untraditional career path" (Oppenheim). Singh's parents always wanted her to graduate university and get a reliable, high paying job. Singh wanted to make youtube videos even though her parents didn't agree at first. She showed bravery because most people would graduate and take a normal job. Instead Singh took a risk, and was brave enough to do what she actually wanted to do. Overall, Singh has made many risky decisions out of her comfort zone, and continues to do those things to this day. She has overcome many hard times in her life by being brave and a risk taker.

Singh's main goal in life is to spread positivity to make other's lives better. She has done many things in her career meant to make everyone's day brighter. In Singh's biography, she states that she wanted her tour to be a positive and fun experience. "I'm going to dance, I'm going to do music, I'm going to have comedy, and my parent characters will be there--for the first time ever live--as well. And it's just going to be a really uplifting, good time" ("Lilly Singh." Gale). Once her channel grew, Singh did a world tour to all the different countries around the world. Her tour was mainly for people to come and have an enjoyable time. She wanted the whole show to be fun, entertaining, but mostly positive. In an article, someone who has worked with Singh said she is always uplifting when working with brands. "Singh's brand is consistently positive and uplifting" (Laurenjohnson). When Lilly Singh works with other brands, she is always positive and tells her fans the brutal truth because she wants to give her audience real advice. She really enjoys working with brands and wants to make the whole experience enjoyable. In Singh's book she says the reason she started making youtube videos was to be positive and make others happy. "I'm writing this book for the same reason I started making youtube videos: because I want to be a positive light in this world" (Singh xii). Singh started her youtube channel because she wanted to make others lives better, as well as her own. Her only goal in life has been to spread awareness for positivity. She wants people to watch her videos to bring positive vibes into their day and make them feel better. Singh always puts effort into all of her content. Her content is often something that will make you laugh or at least put a smile on your face."Known for her animated, sparky persona, Singh speaks fast and exudes efficiency. She often performs in, scripts, directs, edits, and of course thinks up her videos. She also has many faces, dressing up in myriad characters in single videos"  (Oppenheim). Singh's whole youtube channel involves her being funny and making her viewers laugh. She made her channel to help herself out of depression, and other's as well. She is always acting silly and funny so she can make others feel as happy as she does. To conclude, Singh just wants to make people smile when they watch her videos and she does everything she can to have a positive impact on them.

Overall, Singh is the definition of a hero and has all the traits that make one. She may seem like just a regular youtuber, but she is so much more than that. Lilly Singh is brave, positive and an inspiration to all. She is always herself and loves to express her creativity. She inspires me and many other people to be themselves regardless of what others think. She has also created a girl love campaign that raises awareness for girls in Kenya and raises money to let them go to school. She inspires us to find ways to help others in need. She also explains how it wasn't easy for her to get to this place in her life and she wants to inspire us all to persevere and strive towards our goals. Singh uses her fanbase to do good in the world and be a positive light. She only wants to spread positivity to everyone and help them if they're going through what she went through. Lilly Singh is an inspiration to all of us and is a hero to me and many others.
