Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 near Vinci, Italy. His real name was Leonardo di ser Peiro da Vinci. As he was growing up his dad was the one that raised and took care of him.

Around the age of 15 he went to go work as an apprentice for Andrea De Verrocchio. A little while later he started to to work on, "Adoration of the Kings," but never finished because he left Florence to go to Painters Guild, school. "As he was there he studied more than art - he studied astronomy, geology, geometry, optics, music, and writing."(Da Vinci's Life).

In the famous,"Mona Lisa," also known also known as the,"La Gioconda,"(Britannica online), the background has trees, paths, and mountains, but it doesn't look close up, it looks way back in the painting. It's the depth that makes it look so far back and real. In a lot of his paintings there is depth, so they do look realistic. That was one of his techniques for his paintings.

He's also made blueprints for airplanes and helicopters. Leonardo had invented the hang glider, which many people use today. He even made blueprints and invented a parachute for easier transportation. He's invented more than this and they are all used today.
