Louis Braille

by Maurice from Marietta

Louis Braille was a French boy when he was blinded in his father's shop. His eye got infected and the infection went to his other eye.

He became completely blind. Being blind did not stop him, he went on. He discovered a way for blind people to read.  Louis Braille solved the world's largest problem and became a hero.

Louis Braille was born in Coupvray, Fance on January,4 1809. He had a normal life until he had an accident when he was 13 that changed his life.  When he became blind people began to give up on him.  They did not think he could become well-educated.  Louis Braille dealt with it his own way. He spent a lot of time in his life working in a shop. That paid off in the future.

He received a scholarship when he was ten to the National Intsatute of Blind Youth.  After he graduated he became a teacher.  He was diagnosed with Tuberculosis in 1835.  He continued with his invention and lived 17 years longer.  He died after his birthday on January, 6 1852.  He was forty three when he died.

Louis Braille is a hero for creating an alphabet that helped blind people read.  He is also a hero because he did not give up when he went down.  People back then thought that if you went blind you would never read again.  Louis Braille solved that problem.

Louis Braille is my hero because he he helped himself and dedicated his life to helping others.  Even when he was going to die he still continued.   He never gave up on anything.
