Lebron James

by Calvin from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

LeBron James was born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio. His mother, Gloria James, was only 16 at the time. His real dad had been in and out of jail so he walked out on LeBron at an early age, leaving his mother to raise him on her own. Life was very hard for LeBron and his mother. When LeBron was young his grandmother died causing great stress in the family. Gloria was never able to find a steady job. LeBron grew up in Akron just about an hour away from Cleveland.

Not having a lot of money made it hard for Gloria to keep LeBron out of trouble. One of Gloria's boyfriends went to jail for aggravated cocaine trafficking. Despite all of that LeBron still had a pretty good relationship with him, seeing as he had never had someone act as a father to him.

Lebron James has always been a very good basketball player. When he was in high school he never missed a single one of his high school basketball games and some were on television. He had the best averages in the entire nation. He never went to collage and went straight from high school to the NBA to begin playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Lebron James is my hero because he does many things for his community. He grew up not having a father figure. He is a great help to the community, he donates lots of money every year to help kids and families that cannot afford to play sports. He also has donated money to clean up Cleveland so that his hometown can be a safe place for the next generation.
