by Matt

Carl Lewis lived in Philadelphia. His parents were William and Evelyn Lewis. He got his athletic abilities from them. He had three brothers and one sister.

Carl Lewis is a hero because he broke many records and won many gold medals. He even beat his idol Jesse Owens at his own sport.

Some of the obstacles Carl faced were that he was considered the runt of the family. But by the time he was in high school he needed crutches to help him walk because he was growing so fast. Another obstacle was when his coach told him that he was jumping all wrong. He said his knees were taking a pounding. He had to learn a new method called the “hitch kick”. This method was not easy for him.

Some of Carl character traits included perseverance. He never gave up he was passionate about it. It came from his hart. He loved it very much. He was a great concentration. He was great competitor and could block things out. Also, he said, I can relax very well, and when you relax you don’t lose as much speed. His contribution includes making the U.S. Olympic team when he was 18 years old. He was a member of The U.S. Olympic squad four times. In 1980 he won both track and filed event in the NCAA championship that was the first time since Jesse Owens did it in 1936.

In four Olympics he won a recording nine gold medals. He jumped father than 28 feet more than 60 times. Nobody has come close to these achievements. He is considered the best athlete ever.

The reason way these book was so good it was because track and field is a cool Olympic sport. Also, he was the best at sprinting and jumping. Another thing is that he could set world records ever time he sprinted or jumped. Carl could come in first all most every race by at least 0.3 seconds or more. Carl Lewis has a very interesting life, and if you would like to find out more about him then you should read this biography.
