Do you know what you would do if you were the President of the U.S. and the country was in a civil war, and there was slavery? Abraham Lincoln did. He made changes in the United States when he was president. He was helpful to the country when he was president from 1861-1865.

My hero is Abraham Lincoln (the 16th president of the United States). He was president from 1861-1865. He lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Washington, D.C.

During the Civil War he had two goals to keep the US together and free the slaves. He led the North to win the Civil War. He freed the slaves in the south by writing the Emancipation Proclamation, later all the slaves were free. Abe brought the North and South together. Before the war ended he was shot in the head at Ford’s Theater and died the next day.

I think Abraham Lincoln is a hero to others near and far. I think this because he freed the slaves all over the United States even though he was in Washington D.C. He was white and he freed the slaves even though they were black. He also kept the nation together.

Now you know what I think of when I think of a hero. Abe knew how to handle a situation that could split up the US. He helped the country from 1861-1865.
