Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln

My hero is Abraham Lincoln. As the sixteenth president of the United States, he fought with determination for the end of slavery and for saving the Union. Although this is why he was assassinated, I look up to him with great respect for fighting for what he believed in even though many people disagreed with his decision. When he was growing up, everyone liked him because he was a good, honest person. His honesty and determination while he was young followed him throughout his years and helped him win all four elections into the Whig party. A few years later, he became president as a Republican. Three years into his presidency he ordered the Emancipation Proclamation. This was Lincoln’s way of trying to free the slaves under the Confederacy that was not in the Union. Even though this attempt at freeing the slaves was incomplete, it made a difference and changed the outlook on slavery. I believe that if he was not our president and if he did not tell us his views with confidence, our country would be different than it is now.
