Liviu Librescu

Who would be called a true hero? My hero is someone who gave his life to save someone else’s. He is Liviu Librescu of Virginia Tech. Born in Romania in 1930, he died a hero to thousands at the age of 76, while protecting his students from a killer by standing at the door till everyone was out.

Librescu was a great man before the sad event in 2007, and could have run from the chaos and still be alive today. But did he choose to do so? NO! He cared for his students’ lives and futures enough to sacrifice his own. Today, he greatly is missed by every single student he ever taught. He was a professor to these teens, but he saved them as if he was family. He prevented the killer from getting in by blocking the door while being shot five times. I bet anyone would have wanted him to die peacefully with a smile on his face, knowing he did one last good deed to add to his achievements.

We mourn the loss of one of the greatest professors at Virginia Tech, and we shall always follow the example this true hero set. Rest easy where ever you are!
