Lulu is a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig. She started at 4 pounds and a year later weighing 150 pounds. Her owners are Jo Ann and Jack Altsman. The way that the Altsmans got Lulu is their daughter asked them to baby-sit her. Lulu got attached to the Altsmans. Their daughter never came back to pick Lulu up. So Lulu became Jo Ann and Jack's pet. They treated her like an regular pet.
Jo Ann and Jack took Lulu everywhere they went. The Altsmans decided to take a vacation to Presque Isle, Pennsylvania. Lulu went with them. They have a house in Presque Isle, where they stayed. Jack went fishing the next morning after they arrived. When he left his wife and pot-bellied pig, they were still asleep. This is the day that Jo Ann and Jack will find out that their pig, Lulu, is a hero.
After Jack left to go fishing with his friend, Jo Ann woke up. She sat on the side of the bed and put on her robe. After that she put her slippers on her feet. Then she got up to go to the kitchen, but when she got up she fell to the floor. She was having a heart attack. She just had a heart attack 18 months before this one. Jo Ann could not get up to get to the phone. While she was having a heart attack, Lulu was whining on the side of Jo Ann. Jo Ann kept going outside and coming back in. Jo Ann did not know where Lulu was going. Every time Lulu was going outside, she went outside to the road to see if there was anyone on the road. Lulu kept trying to stop a car to help Jo Ann. So Lulu went back and forth to check on Jo Ann and then to the road. After 45 minutes someone finally stopped and Lulu took him to where Jo Ann was. The man called the ambulance and Jo Ann was taken to the hospital. She was okay after she got out of the hospital. This is how Lulu became an animal hero.
