Machine Gun Kelly (MGK)

by Lani from Mission Viejo

"There's nothing like someone who has lived your story and Ohio's MC MGK resilience has become a beacon of hope for thousands of kids across America. Penning rhymes about everything from addiction to family issues, MGK is a symbol of relentless perseverance to his fans and the MC is about to begin the next chapter of his already successful career."

When I first become aware of mu PCH was when his first hit came out called "Wild Boy" and at first I thought that song and him as a rapper was horrible. But I decided to look more in to his music, and I found out a lot of his music is meaningful and has great lyrics to it.

What attracts me to him and his career is the fact that he goes all out at his concerts, and he does a lot to give back to his fans. Also, his lyrics that aren't your cliche "Rap" or "Hip-Hop" type of lyrics. They're more sincere and meaningful than that.

MGK started off in his friends house rapping and got a name for himself in his home town of Cleveland, Ohio. His education was up to when he was 16 then he dropped out of High School to pursue his dreams as a rapper. At first, the money he made wasn't much. But after years of hard work and dedication, he now makes $100,00 to $1,000,000 depending on his mixtapes and which and where he goes on tours. One of his recent developments is his new mixtape he calls "Black Flag". MGK states that this new mixtape is the symbol of his "Lace Up" movement and everything he stands for. That mixtape made the most out of all of his past mixtapes.

He has been working hard on his goals and his dreams ever since he was a kid. He ignored the racism he got for being white, and all of the negativity he go as well to keep on pushing. Like I said before MGK dropped out of High School, to pursue his dreams. Which obviously isn’t something people should look up to. But people should look to is the determination he has given for his goals and everything he has overcome.

What got his name out there to more people was his hit song "Wild Boy" and his signing to "Bad Boy Records". "We drove straight from Ohio and stood in line for ten hours," recalls MGK. "I got boo'd as soon as I walked on the Apollo stage and then I won ... twice." he soon earned a nod for Best Midwest Artist at the 2010 Underground Music Awards and his "Alice in Wonderland" clip won Best Music Video at the 2010 Ohio Hip-Hop Awards.

I'm not trying to be a rapper like him but I will do what he does best, which is stay true to himself and help others out when needed. He sets a good example to many people. One of the many examples, is how he keeps sincere and appreciates all the little things in life.

One of my favorite lyrics by him is:

I've been here so long,
Maybe I should runaway,
Try to find a summer day,
What is love,
Love is pain,
Love is butterflies and stomach aches,
Love is looking out a windowpane, tears dripping looking like you're in the rain,
For someone you don't even know but for somebody you may never see again,
I am only alive once,
And I'm a die when God wants,
So fill the sky with diamonds,
Because that's how it's gonna look when I'm gone,...
