Maya Angelou

by Taylor from Raleigh

My hero is Maya Angelou; a very famous poet. She was born April 4th, 1928, in Saint Louis, Missouri. The reason I chose her was because she is very inspirational. Her poem, "Phenomenal women," is my favorite poem of all time. I also like her because as a child she had been abused and still pushed on. How she got to where she is today, is because she never gave up. Even at her worst she still fought.

The first reason why i like her, is because she is an inspiration. All the things she says, the things she does, and the things she writes about can turn your whole day around. if you are sad and need some up lifting you can always just turn to one of her poems. If you listen to the things she is saying, it like she has been exactly where you are. When she dropped out of school only at the age of 14, i know she took a risk, but she believed in herself and did what she had to do. Then after she did what she had to, she returned to finish high school and giving birth to her son.

Second, i really like her poem "Phenomenal women". That poem is everything i wanna be as time goes on. She talks about how she is a phenomenal woman and how she might not be cute or built fashion model size, but still she doesn't walk around with her head bowed, or have to jump about or talk real loud. That is very inspirational for some women that might not think that they are "phenomenal women".

The third reason i really like her is because she was abused as a child and still went forward and never back. Many people could go through something like that and still press on. I know if it was me i would have just shut down and not opened myself back up. Inspite of all that she still managed to write, sing, and do all the great things she did.

As i have said before i choose Maya Angelou as my hero. She was and is still very great. One day i don't wanna be exactly like her and do all the things she has done but I wanna be somewhat great like her.
