Maya as a young woman (http://www.achievement.org/autodoc/ photocredit/achievers/ang0-003) |
My hero is MAYA ANGELOU, original name Marguerite Anne Johnson. Throughout all these circumstances she still managed to become San Francisco’s first black woman cable car conductor. She also was the first black women to have an original screenplay produced in 1971, ”Georgia, Georgia”. She is fluent in French, Spanish, Italian, and West African Fanti. Maya was also the northern coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference at the request of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She also was appointed to the Bicentennial Commission by President Gerald Ford, and the National Commission on the Observance of International Women’s Year by Jimmy Carter. Maya wrote and delivered the Presidential Inauguration for President Bill Clinton. Maya Angelou was mute for many years.

Maya Angelou is a very important person to me. She has accomplished many things in her life. She stood up for what she believed in, cared for all and helped all. Maya Angelou has made a difference in my life; she went from continent to continent helping others in many ways. She never gave up no matter what the task was or how hard it was to accomplish. To me she lived her life wondering what was going to happen next. She was and still is an independent woman. Inspires many young people in her life she is living. Let’s just say I look up to Maya Angelou because she was a strong African American who made a DIFFERENCE!!!!
