How do you describe a hero? I can describe one in two words, Mariah Carey. She is what a hero truly is. Mariah Carey is an aspiring actress, singer, and songwriter who at the age of 18 started her amazing singing career. Her voice is one of a kind, complete with a 5-octave range, and the amazing talent of performing a whistle note! Most of the time in long, graceful melodies. She is the only artist since The Beatles to have so many number one hits! She has held a 59-week record on the billboard's top 100 best singles and albums!! She is and always will be the most successful and popular selling female artist. Mariah's dream of being singer was always present in her life. In fact she never worried much about school, and tried to skip school as much as possible, she had no desire to keep pursuing her education, when she wanted nothing to do with it. Her lack of concentration in school earned her the nickname "The Mirage".

After Highschool graduation Mariah moved to New York City to follow her dream as a singer. She started as a back up singer for Brenda K. Starr, a popular artist of her time. While underneath the wings of Brenda K. Starr, she had created a mix tape for her own career that ended up in the hands of Tommy Mottola a successful executive producer for Sony Music. She then was signed onto a contract with Columbia Records. Her first album titled "Mariah Carey" sold 6 million copies in 1990, and earned her 2 Grammy awards! This was just the beginning, her career skyrocketed all the way up until her divorce of of her husband Tommy Mottola.(Mariah eventually remarried to Nick Cannon on April 30, 2008)

After Mariahs' divorce she set off, basically out on her own, a single and free woman pursuing her dream. That is until she had an emotional breakdown in 2001. She took a break from singing, obviously just resting "The Voice", because in 2005 Mariah broke out with her tenth album "The Emancipation of MIMI"!! She then went on tour for her latest album, she called her tour "The Adventures of MIMI". This album sold more copies in the first week than any of her other 9 albums! Mariah since then has made albums such as "The Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" and "The Ballads". Mariah will be around a long time and people will always love her, and I am definitely one of them. She has inspired millions, has the voice power of millions, but there is, and always will be one Mariah Carey. She will always be remembered and is truly a hero.

Why Mariah Carey is my hero- There are multiple reasons why such an amazing person is my hero, but to sum it up, it is all because of her voice, generosity, and love for her fans. Mariah's voice is like no other, spanning 5 octaves! Which is truly a blessing to have! Her and a few others such as Minnie Ripperton (one of Mariah's inspirations) have an amazing talent known as the whistle register. It is a note that is above the octave C6. She knows how to fluctuate her voice while using her whistle register which is a difficult thing to do. She has inspired me to use my singing abilities to become famous at a young age such as she did, and help others. That is now my number one priority! "If you believe, you can make it happen"!

Mariah has been through many hardships such as I have, so I can somewhat relate to her. Her parents went through a divorce, mine currently are. I was born prematurely and struggled for my life, such as her life was threatened due to racial tensions. And I believe, as well as Mariah did, that you can make it through anything if you just believe in yourself, and don't let others put you down. Mariah is known around the world, and I am just starstruck everytime I hear about her or see her. If I met Mariah Carey today, I could truly tell you that I could die a happy person, that's how much she inspires me. Even after Mariah's long gone, she will still be an inspiration to me. I will still be able to turn to her songs for peace, and I will always hear her voice wherever I go. Mariah says that "butterflies follow me everywhere I go", her voice follows me, everywhere I go. Mariah is my inspiration...and nothing, Nothing will ever change that.
