My personal hero is my mother. My mom was born at the Pohnpei State Hospital. My mom is a courageous, brave, good-hearted, determined, loving, easygoing, and cooperative person. My mom is called Mayleen Jack Ekiek a.k.a, Dr. Ekiek. My mom is courageous, brave, and determined because she never gives up no matter the consequences.
My mother got her PhD degree from Eastern New Mexico University, (ENMU) when she graduated in the year 1987. She came back to Pohnpei and worked as a doctor at the Pohnpei State Hospital. She has helped a lot of people and even though the job was very difficult, she enjoyed it. She loves to help people.
In the year 2002, she resigned from the Pohnpei State Hospital and now she's working at the Department of Health and Social Affairs in Palikir, Sokehs. Now, she's in charge of the TB Program and the Prevention of HIV/AIDS Program. My mother has been to places other than the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), teaching people about the effects of TB and HIV/AIDS and what should be done to prevent these deadly diseases.
She also have sponsored many students debating on these diseases. she puts others needs before her own needs. She's easygoing and a very cooperative person, she enjoys working with others, campaigning for these deadly diseases, trying to make a difference in the world. My mother always tell me that if I want to achieve something good in life, I'd have to work for it to happen. To believe in myself and to never give up.
I'm so glad she is my mother. A mother who is always there when you need her and a mother who is patient and loving. I love my mother and I'm very proud to be her daughter.
