Michael Gallagher

When I think of a hero, I think of someone who is dedicated, hardworking, & generous. My hero is my great-uncle Michael. He lives in Ireland on an island off the coast, called Achill Island. There, he has sheep, dogs, & a beautiful ocean view. His house is literally a few houses down from the Atlantic Ocean! My uncle is dedicated, hardworking, & generous.

He is dedicated because he tends to his sheep & farm, & he loves what he does. He has over 100 sheep that he & his dogs tend to. He tends not only to his sheep, but to his farm by making sure everything is done neatly. Whenever you see him with a smile on his face, which is often, you know he loves what he does.

My uncle is hardworking because he tends to his farm all by himself! He never complains & is always up for a challenge. He always has something to do, whether it's fixing his tractor or washing his sheep. He has to mark every one of his sheep so other farmers know what sheep are his. But he loves to do it!

He is generous because he helps other people out whenever they need it. If a sheep gets stuck on a cliff, my uncle is the one to call! He loves to help people, no matter what the difficulty. When someone dies, my uncle & a few friends dig a hole for the casket. He goes to church every Sunday & is a Lector sometimes. My uncle is the most generous person I know.

But the main reason my uncle is my hero, is because he was on the verge of death a few months ago. His kidneys were failing & the hospital had him on a Life Support machine. He went into coma but came back out, still on the machine. So my mom & my grandma flew over to see him, thinking it was the last time. When they got to the hospital, his family was surrounding him, & they took him off the machine. Miraculously he started breathing & a few days later he opened his eyes. He is the toughest man I know. He recovered & went home. Now, he is doing a lot better, & is back to his daily routine. My uncle is hardworking, dedicated, generous, & tough. That is why my great-uncle Michael is my hero.
