Mohandas Karmachand Gandhi was born in Porbander, in a state, which is now Gujarat on October 2,1869. He went to school nearby in Rajkot, which is where his father served as a prime minister to the local ruler. During this time, India was under the British control. They ruled over 500 kingdoms, principalities, and states! Rajkot was one such state. Mohandas K. Gandhi is my hero not just because he fought for India's rights, but the way he fought inspires me, and will probably leave an impression on me for life. Mohandas Gandhi has fought many areas without violence. He has made peace not only throughout India, but the whole world. Many other peacemaker heroes have grown fond of him, and have used the Jain belief of ahimsa, or non- violence. Many heroes who followed Mohandas Karmachand Gandhi's path were: Martin Luther King Jr., and Cesar Chavez. He fought for the Hispanics all around the world, and Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. fought against the African American discrimination.
Gandhi's father died even before Gandhi finished his schooling. Later, Gandhi married a woman named Kasturba. In 1888 Gandhi set sail to England, where he decided to practice the degree of law. After one year of successful law practice, Gandhi accepted an offer from an Indian business man, Dada Abdulla, who lived in South Africa. Meanwhile, he stayed there in South Africa for over 20 years!! There, he stayed with him and had a successful business along with the occupation of a lawyer.
The Indians who lived in South Africa were without political rights, and were normally known by the dreadful name of "coolies". Gandhi became aware of this frightening force, and full of anger against European racism, he was surprised at what the cost was of an Indian compared to a full human being. One time, when Gandhi was boarding a train with a first class ticket to a compartment car, he was forbidden and thrown out of the train by a British conductor. This was because of Gandhiji's origin, background and skin color. Mohandas K. Gandhi became worried of how he will stand up for his country if the aggressive British conductor doesn't even let an Indian board a train.
Although Mohandas K. Gandhi was Hindu and followed the religion of Hinduism, the key that let him be what he is today is some of the Jain Beliefs from the Indian religion Jainism. He strongly believed in them, and followed it for the rest of his life. Gandhi was to describe himself preeminently as a seeker of Jain Beliefs.
1. Ahimsa - non violence
2. Aparigraha -non - possession
3. Bramacharya - celibacy
4. Satya- Truthfulness
Gandhi conceived of his own life as a sequence of experiments to forge the use of Satyagara; Gandhi's theory of non - violent resistance. As he fought for freedom, Mohandas K. Gandhi realized that freedom is only freedom when it is invisible. His enlightenment was the key to it all. Mohandas K. Gandhi prayed day and night for his country's freedom, and showed the British what other people can do.
Because of the way Gandhi fought for India's rights as an independent country, he was now called "Mahatma Gandhi". Mahatma Gandhi means the Superior One. The responsibilities that Gandhi took over himself were extremely hard to accomplish, but he did it. Mohandas Karmachand Gandhi was now known as Mahatma Gandhi or the Superior One, because of his courage and confidence against the British Government. Mahatma Gandhi was loved by many people, and is still loved by many, many people in the world today.
On January 30, 1948, Gandhi was shot and killed while having a walk on the grounds of Birla Bhavan, in New Delhi. The assassin, Nathuram Godse, was a Hindu radical with links to Hindu Mahasabha, who held Gandhi responsible for weakening India's strength by asking upon a payment to Pakistan. Gandhi's memorial at Raj Ghat, New Delhi, bears the inscription, "He Ram", or "Oh God" These are believed to be Gandhi's last words before he was shot.
Gandhi is my hero because of his great voice and his positive attitude towards his beloved country. I will never forget how much he did for India and the whole world. How he influenced other peacemaker heroes inspires me. Mahatma Gandhi's ashes lay at Aga Khan Palace (Pune, India) Mahatma Gandhi is my inspiration now and will be, forever.
