Mahatma Gandhi (http://www.biography.com/people/mahatma-gandhi-930 (biography.com)) |
In the days of darkness for India, the British army sets laws and rules that are set to deliberately discriminate against Indians. As times of agony for the Indians, one hero emerges and takes control on what he thinks is right. His name was Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi wanted to create and change the rules of India and so he sought to become a leader in the political and religious parties. Gandhi spend most of his life in his native home India. His goal was to achieve a nonviolent, civil, disobedience, freedom for India. Gandhi's major key in his success was when he made a major breakthrough in the revolution of peace in India. He urged Indians to join his civil disobedience which caught a lot of major attraction to the movement. But that was not all.
Mahatma Gandhi was one of the most inspirational people on the planet. He freed millions in India from the British power and motivated many around the world. He motivated many popular speakers such as Martin Luther King Jr. who stated, "Christ gave me the message, Gandhi gave me the method."(Ang, Sean. Did Gandhi Really Liberate India?) Gandhi's non-violent attitude worked not only politically, but religiously also. He would go on hunger strikes to prove his devoted hands to god. Mahatma Gandhi was considered to be a rebel. A rebel for a just cause. Gandhi and his men stayed in jail with his followers until peace has been set. "We will not leave until the people can once walk among equals." His motivation to others caused many protests around the world also. He not only created rallies to contest the British government to set India free, He inspired many other people to do similar actions to create and fix unjust laws.
Another reason he was such an inspiration to others was because he was brave. His bravery and attitude for non violent peacemaking made him different and well respected around India and around the world. Many people followed his footsteps because of the perseverance and bravery it took to do something like what Gandhi did. As many of his followers insisted on violence since India was in a four thousand to one ratio against the British, they could have easily taken out the British in India and taken control. But still Gandhi persisted that his method of non violence would pay off because he was in the hands of God. His persist attitude against the British finally won the war against against them. They finally stated that they did not have the required resources to keep India and they let India have their own freedom. "Despite Gandhi's satyagraha and his protest fasts, it was the violence in the streets that finally convinced the British they could no longer hold on to India. Lord Linlithgow, viceroy for most of the war, responded to Congress's 1942 'Quit India!' campaign by arresting thousands of Congress members, including all its leaders." (ang, Sean. "Gandhi and Indian independence) He inspired many around the world to fix what they felt seemed unjust thus creating a new method of protest that involves no violence. Many rejoiced in freedom but one day, Mahatma Gandhi was shot three times and killed by a young man who had looked up to him.

Gandhi using the spin wheel for one hour a day. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinning_wheel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinning_wheel)) |
Motivation and bravery made him a very big part of my life. I had him as a role model for myself and most likely for many others did as well. He took words of hate and discrimination and turned that to power by changing the views of many people around the world. But to become someone of great integrity and intellect is not easy to come by. It takes years and years to work on becoming a better person and being a person of great knowledge. As for Gandhi, he has accomplished all of that and proved to the world that it is possible. That is why I strive to become someone like him and always improve myself in every way possible to this day.
