Mohandas Gandhi

by Vasken from Glenbrook Middle School

Each one has to find peace from within. And peace to be must be unaffected by outside circumstances. - Mohandas Gandhi

Mohandas Gandhi was born October 2, 1869 in Porbander, India. Gandhi grew up in a wealthy family with two brothers, Laximadas and Karsandas, and one sister Raliatbehn. Mohandas Gandhi is a very kind gentle person who greatly believes in peace. I choose Gandhi as my hero because he fought for the independence for another country and died for it. He also got beat up by a crowd of people and almost died, though he forgave them like nothing happened.

Gandhi made a difference for the world because he today is considered a banner for peace. Gandhi was a big part of pointing out the apartheid of the people of South Africa, which wasn’t even his country though he fought for what he thought was right. Gandhi also led the Salt March in India which was a boycott against the British. The Salt March eventually led to the British giving India Independence. Gandhi also taught people how to use Satyagraha, which is peaceful protesting. Gandhi was killed in 1948 by a fundamentalist Hindu and is still remembered in many areas of the world as a heroic and peaceful leader.

Gandhi is considered a hero because he made a difference for South African and India in many ways. If Gandhi didn’t save South Africa from Apartheid they could still be under control by the British government. This also could have led to war in South Africa causing more death than there should be. Gandhi also made a difference to my life because he showed me anything can be done without violence.

Gandhi was one in a million to fight for another country for what he thought was right. Gandhi is now an emblem for peace, meaning many people's hero is Gandhi. This action also led to the British government compromising with the Indians of South Africa. In conclusion Gandhi is a true hero of the world.
