Every country has it's own heroes and people of that country respect and admire them. My hero is the man who served his country in the best way he could, and still does, his name is Mikhail Gorbachev.Mikhail started from the bottom, he started from operating a harvesting combine, but he rose in his career significantly. From a combine to a General Secretary of Communist Party of USSR. He even had an honor to be a president of USSR for one year, and surprisingly, that same year, he achieved a Nobel Prize of Peace. He earned this award by stopping the Cold War, signed an agreement with U.S. President Ronald Reagan for their two countries to destroy all existing stocks of intermediate-range nuclear-tipped missiles and also by overlooking the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan after their nine-year occupation of that country.

Gorbachev hinged his efforts to revitalize the Soviet Union on two plans: glasnost (meaning openness) and perestroika (meaning restructuring). By relaxing bureaucracy and censorship Gorbachev hoped to transform the Stalinist Soviet regime into a more modern social democracy.Growing crisis in internal affairs and economy fastened the collapse of the Soviet Union and in the first part of 1990 almost all Soviet Republics announced sovereignty. 25 December of 1991 Mikhail Gorbachev retired from his post of the president of the USSR.Gorbachev wanted to change the world so everyone could live in peace. Such a big dream is hard to achieve but he hoped that he could do it, but world wasn't prepare for such a big reform and it stayed the same. He did what he could, and he surely left a mark in the history of USSR as one of the greatest rulers in the world.
His importance in the history of USSR is significant and cannot be compared with anything. His success in life strikes, and his peacemakers ability inspires, yet he is one of the greatest. That is why Mikhail Gorbachev is my hero.
