When I think of the word "Hero" I think of courage, cleverness, wisdom, honesty, determination, ambition etc. and I could go on and on about all the characteristics of a hero, but there is only one that truly matters, and that is leadership. When you don't have leadership it is hard for others to listen to you and your ideas. But, Martin Luther King Jr. had leadership. That is why he got so many people to follow him to end racial segregation and unite the sons and daughters of God for racial equality. King had a chip on his shoulder, a motive to drive him to success, the fight and will in him, and a fire ignited in him to accomplish what he did.

Martin Luther King Jr. has all the characteristics of a hero a hero can have, for example courage, wisdom, kindness, determination and so on.. but, most of all he has leadership. The ability to motivate others to do things the couldn't have done on their own, to convince others to believe a certain way. King did just that he led thousands to help end racial segregation and discrimination against all races and non violence. King had such great leadership that he also led a group of 200,000 to 300,000 contributors in the "March on Washington" campaign where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I have a dream speech".

Martin Luther King Jr. lived in 1929- 1968 where racial discrimination and racial segregation took place and was accepted in many parts of society in the U.S. King fell into depression at a young age after his grandma died, he blamed himself and jumped off a two story building but survived. Where he grew up didn't help much either. Since Georgia was a southern state the racists and racial segregation/discrimination was far more worse than it would it be in the northern states, for example Washington. King took actions by promoting an end to racial segregation/discrimination and also promoting non violence.

The fire that ignited King was the dream for equality for everyone and everything because King grew up at a time where people were very racist also where racial segregation and discrimination were very common and normal. Martin Luther King Jr. tried to follow the steps of Gandhi and his teachings of nonviolence. King accomplished many major achievements in his short life span of 39 years. King played a key role in the Civil Rights movement which he led the "March on Washington", 'Montgomery Bus Boycott", "Sit in Movement" and gave his "I Have A Dream" speech that he is most famous for. Martin Luther King Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize for promoting racial equality and nonviolence. King not only won the Nobel Peace Prize but also the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. In 1983 President Ronald Reagan made Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a U.S. Federal Holiday in honor of King and his achievements towards Racial Equality and Nonviolence.

Martin Luther King is important to me because he shows true heroism and his acts as a human being inspire me to be more like him. King is not only important to me but many people as well as world history and nation history because he affected all of by showing us that racial segregation and discrimination of races is bad and inhumane. King is an awesome hero because of all of the achievements he has accomplished through his short life and what pain and obstacles he had to go through to get there, he also had the ability of great leadership, and how he acted as a human being.
