Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 and died April 4, 1968. In 1954, Martin Luther King Jr. became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Always a strong worker for civil rights for members of his race, King was, by this time, a member of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the leading organization of its kind in the nation.

Martin Luther King Jr. displayed leadership through motivation by persevering through enormous hardship and frustration in order to reach a goal he had set for himself. His goal was to have peace for both black and white people, his advice was not to judge one another by the color of their skin but by the contents of their characters. He also he sacrificed much in the area of personal relationships and home life in order to do so. Martin Luther King, Jr. was always motivated by what was in his heart and where his true priorities lay.

Martin Luther King, Jr. showed leadership through integrity by the success of The Montgomery Bus Boycott. It was a political and social protest campaign that started in 1955. That helped him to become one of the most prominent positions in the growing Civil Rights Movement and helped him gain the confidence of black southerners ready to involve themselves in the struggle. Martin Luther King, Jr. showed his integrity by helping his own race to earn rights in the USA. King Jr. led marches for black’s right to vote, desegregation, labor rights and other basic civil rights.

He shows confidence by not getting down, when his people were in a bad position. This attitude helped him display his confidence by telling people what he thought, and what he wanted to do with the problem that they were having with racism.

Through his “I have a dream” speech, Martin Luther King, Jr. communicated that he wanted to fight a federal civil rights act and achieve legal equality and social dignity for all people, without regard to the color of their skin. Communication was one of the best qualities of King, Jr. because he communicated what he thought was good for people and to tell the USA what they were doing wrong with people that wanted to work like others.

Martin Luther King, Jr. had integrity, confidence, communication and motivation. All four of these things helped him through his life and career, and his people who needed him. These four things describe how he was in his life and why he is a leader.
