“I Have a Dream.” This was the famous speech that Martin Luther King Jr. gave at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC on August 16th 1963. Martin Luther King was born Michael Luther King on January 15th 1929 but later changed his mane to Martin. Dr. King was assassinated on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4th 1968. Martin Luther King Jr. is my hero because he is a great speaker, brave, and smart.
Martin Luther King Jr. is my hero because he was a great speaker and influenced many people with his powerful and moving words. Dr. King traveled thousands of miles in the North and the South giving speeches everywhere he went. Dr. King inspired many people, both black and white, with his “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial. Most of his speeches were about racism and how the blacks were treated and they were very moving. He traveled about six million miles and spoke about 250 times appearing wherever there was injustice, protest and action. All in all it just seemed like Dr. King was born to speak.

Martin Luther King Jr. was brave because in times of racism he stood up for the blacks. Dr. King was brave because he and many other blacks, and even some whites, protested despite the fact that they could have been killed. He even led a protest about Rosa Parks being arrested for not giving up her seat to a white man on a bus. Dr. King and others boycotted against the bus business and refused to ride them until the Supreme Court said that the bus company had to stop the segregation and blacks and whites rode the buses as equals. During the times of protest, Dr. King was arrested, subjected to personal abuse, and got his house bombed. So Dr. King was brave because even though he knew what could happen and the risks he had to take, he continued to boycott and protest until the blacks were treated fairly.
Martin Luther King Jr. was smart because he was one of six black students in a student body of 100. Dr. King graduated from high school at the age of 15 and graduated from college at the age of 19. He entered the Morehouse College in Atlanta at the age of 15. After three years of theological study at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania he graduated with the B.D. in 1951. With a fellowship won at Crozer he entered Boston University in 1951 to study for his doctorate. He was so smart he even had an opportunity to take a philosophy course at Harvard University. He completed his residence for the doctorate in 1953 and received the degree in 1955. Dr. King was smart because he had many opportunities that many blacks did not usually get in those times.

In conclusion Martin Luther King Jr. is my hero because he influenced many people with his words, did brave things, and was very smart. Dr. King is my hero because he never gave up on his dream and if it weren’t for him, who knows where we would be right now in terms of racial equality.
