My hero is someone who looks forward to every day as a opportunity to do great things and has the best attitude about everything! That is why my hero is Mavis Medley! Mavis is a relative of mine on my dad's side. She is 93 years old and has a great attitude! She lives in America (which means it's a great excuse for my family to go on holiday:)
Mavis had big surgery at the start of this year which was more of a risk at her age than any other. Her surgery was for arthritis. She had been living with arthritis for a while by herself because all of her other family members were either dead or live somewhere else ( like me, mum, dad and my brother).
No matter how far we live from each other we manage to keep contact by talking on the telephone or writing letters.
The thing I love about Mavis is that even though she lives by herself, was suffering from arthritis (still recovering) and is ninety-three, she never thinks about the bad things and only the good. She never complains and always says the nicest things if you are feeling down.
For example when my family went to America when I was small I got her a helium balloon with a giant smiley face on it (she really likes smiley faces) and as we were walking down to her house I fell over and the balloon came off the string. I was so upset and was crying when we got to her house. I gave her the string and she didn't care about the balloon she just was so happy that we thought about her and she said she will keep the string forever. From this day on she still has the string hanging on her kitchen fridge. Which to me is pretty special.
One thing Mavis says to me is if you are feeling mad at life and angry, just write down all the bad things in life and than all the good things on a piece of paper and the good things will always overpower the bad.
Because of her great attitude and sayings:) that is why Mavis is my hero!
