Marissa Meyer

by Allison from Mission Viejo

"Every secret of a writer's soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind is written large in his works." -Virginia Woolf

I learned about Marissa Meyer when I picked up her book, Cinder. I then started to read more and learn about her. I am really inspired by the career of an author, and I always have been, because today, more than ever, authors are talking to their readers and fans. I would love to be an author because I have always loved reading, and I have learned so much. It expands your vocabulary and literacy rates, but in these books you can learn a lot about character and values. I have met a few authors, and when you learn more about the life of writing, you realize how interesting it is. Their works motivate people to keep reading and expand their vocabulary and minds so it would be amazing to be able to do that for a living. I could write about what I learn in life, and I could be able to teach these things to the next generation

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) in the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the success rate is slower than average because it always depends on the consumers. A college bachelor's degree is important and well as excellent writing skills and a major in English. The OOH says salary range for an author is typically from $50,00-$60,00 annually. Jobs with similar skills are often in communications and public relations, or in media. Editors or broadcasters are very similar. Authors are often paid by assignment, so they are capable of setting and managing their work schedule themselves, and work wherever they have access to their computer, not necessarily in an office. Authors have recently began to more popular with the younger generation spending more time with media and fiction novels via social media and blogs.

Marissa Meyer is a very important contributor to society. According to Marissa Meyer's biography webpage, even as a young child she took a special aptitude towards reading. Later she was introduced to writing by a friend. In school, she proved to be "bookish" and excelled in her classes, especially English. She worked in a mail room, and she was usually surrounded by all sorts of writing. She graduated with a degree with a major in editing from Pace University. She has written an ongoing series of novels, which she started on a whim, and was immediately successful. She is currently spending her time writing another book and making appearances for her fans, her next book tour from February 4-24 in scheduled appearances in Canada and the US. As a writer for young adults, she keeps young people reading and writing and interested in school. She makes her appearances with book showings with the Macmillan publishing groups. Like every reader and author, she knows, "Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man," a quote from Francis Bacon. Reading and writing and create a positive influence on the children and young minds and the future, so getting more people to read is good for us.

I will do my best to have a career like that of Marissa Meyer. I also really want to be a scientist, so I will work hard to do both. I can be a scientist, but I will also write. In high school, I will join both science and writing clubs, and I will read. I will take biology, chemistry, and AP lit to learn more about books. If I can I could intern a lab, or with an author. I plan to go to an in state college, and major in biology, and minor in creative writing. There, I will take a job in a lab, or spend my free time taking extracurricular writing. I will keep doing what I love, but since I want to do two things, I will spend my time with science and get a job in a marine lab. If I succeed with biology and discover new things, it will inspire me with writing ideas, and I can write about my science career, but with fiction. I will be able to write about what I learned on the job and it will be good. I will have a book published, and a successful scientific career.
