I chose Matthew Podolak as my hero because he inspires me to cut down on pollution and be more environmentally friendly. Example: Walking to a store (within reason) instead of burning gas and causing pollution at the same time.
He was born October 11, 1997 in the Royal Victoria Hospital. He goes to Holly Meadows ES. He is in grade seven*(7)*
It all began when he went to his school's annual year science fair with his project (Algae Goes Green In The Arctic) where he fused algae with car exhaust to cut back pollution.
He was surprised with his outcome where he had cut down carbon dioxide and other toxin by 58% and made a outcome of oxygen produce of 10%. An achievement Matthew has accomplished was winning his school's Science Fair as well as bringing home a gold medal and Via Rails and Honda Canada Automotive's awards and received 300 dollars as well. In May, with Simcoe County paying all expenses and payments for his trips, he came in first and won a $2000 scholarship.
Matthew Podolak displays optimism and integrity throughout his whole adventure through science fairs around Canada. He hopes his idea will be used in cars one day. His simple idea, to mix car exhaust through algae, brought him far.
With the money he earned he thinks he will buy himself a laptop because he has a wireless classroom and is allowed to use them in class. His hobbies are soccer (he has been playing since he was four), reading, drawing, and making people out of clay. Some activities he plays at school includes the chess club, the reading club, patrolling, and attending two Sunday schools to help with kids.
