Before being elected president, General Michel Sleiman held the position of commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), on May, 28th 2008. A little after 5:30pm he was elected.
Once a general, now a president, he is a great inspiration and wonderful role model. "Michel Sleiman got 118 votes and I declare him president of Lebanon," announced parliament speaker Nabih Berri. You could tell that a lot of people in the parliament wanted him to be president and the reasons are because not only did he plan and fight with the army to fight off Fateh Al Islam, a terrorist group that was camping in many different villages in North Lebanon, but he also accomplished a lot over the years especially when he was commander of the Lebanese army.
Our newly elected President Michel Sleiman fought terrorism and extremism everyday. He did all he could within the power of his position as Commander of the Lebanese Army Forces to make Lebanon a better and safer place for all Lebanese. Lebanon, as you may know, has been split up into two different parties, The Opposition (8th March forces), and the Government (14th of March Forces). President Michel Sleiman decided not to choose any side which is a smart and wise choice. He does all he can to try to stop the two parties from fighting. He was always neutral and now it paid off because now they elected him for that reason. This hero will one day be known as the President who saved Lebanon when it was just holding on by its last thread. Lebanon was going to crash and burn if someone didn't try to help it, but President Sleiman came and now Lebanon is united for all.
I chose President Michel Sleiman because he really could do something for Lebanon. He did an outstanding job in the LAF as their commander, and I know he would do a outstanding job as President. My hero overcame many obstacles, and defeated many enemies, like Fateh Al-Islam.
If you lived in Lebanon in these past few years, and seen the things everyone else saw - the killing, the burning, the bombs, the massacres, and the assassinations - you would think President Michel Sleiman is a hero. He is a Hero to me, a Hero to you, a Hero to Lebanon. He is a brave man ready for anything to come, a hero to many, always on his feet and two steps ahead of everyone. I learned that there is hope and there is always someone like President Sleiman to help, and to save us from civil war. You would be happy to have a president that understands and to saves us. Can you imagine if he was never elected or can you imagine if he was assassinated? What would've happened to Lebanon?
