Many people have different definitions of a hero. Ultimately it is that your heart defines it. To me, a hero means many different things. They can be courageous, inspiring, strong, and sympathetic. Mother Teresa possessed all of those traits plus so much more. To me, Mother Teresa is a hero.
Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia on August 26, 1910. When she was just twelve years old she felt strongly the call of God! She then knew that she had to be a missionary, so she could spread the love of Christ. When she was eighteen she left her home in Skopje and joined the sister of Loreto, an Irish community of missions in India. After a few years she devoted herself to working within the slums in Calcutta. Even though she had no funding and was poor herself, she started an open-air school for slum children. Later she received financial support which made it possible for her to extend the scope of her work. One October 7, 1950 Mother Teresa received permission from the Holy See to start, “The Missionaries of Charity” whose main task was to love and care for those people that nobody was looking after. This missionary has spread throughout the world. Because of Mother Teresa, the world is a better place.
Mother Teresa is important to me because, although she was in poverty herself, she still helped other people; she thought of others before herself. She was also courageous enough to go to places other people would not have enough courage to go. Therefore, Mother Teresa is my hero.
