“If you can’t feed a hundred people, feed one”. These are the words of Mother Teresa, a kindhearted, selfless person. She is one of the many heroes of the world. Although she is no longer with us, she has influenced many people, including me. She done so much, has an interesting background, and has many qualities that make her important. Her example has changed me.
| Mother Theresa |
The kindhearted Mother has done so much, it’s unbelievable! At the age of 12, she started to spread the love of Christ to others. Six years later, when she was 18, she left her family to become a nun. She became an official nun on May 24th, 1931. Soon after that, Mother Teresa taught at St. Mary’s High School, in Calcutta, for 17 years. However, in 1948, when she saw all the poor people outside, she felt the need to help them, and so she got permission from the school to leave. She cared for the poorest of the poor for a while, and then started a school for slum children at no charge to them. Because people were starting to be influenced by what she did, she started the order of “The Missionaries of Charity.” Mother Teresa won many awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize, in 1997, for her hard work for others.
During her long life, Mother Teresa lived in many places. She started out in Skopie, Yugoslavia, which is today’s Macedonia, where she was born, on August 27th, 1910. When she was 18 years old, she moved to India, to become a nun. After a few years, she moved to Calcutta to teach at the school, and stayed there while she helped and taught in the slums. For the rest of her life, she and her order went everywhere helping the poor. Mother Teresa died on September 5th, 1997, and soon after, she received the Nobel Peace Prize.
Mother Teresa was just like an living angel. She’s important to the world, and me personally, for the following reasons. At a pretty young age, she started to spread love and help the poor in the slums and the streets. She carried on doing this until the day she died, no matter what. Another reason she is important is because she was so selfless. Never once did she care about herself, she herself did not have a lot of money. Every once in a while, we all are greedy, although we don’t like to admit it, but she was never greedy, not even the slightest bit. I admire her so much for that.
When I hear about the things Mother Teresa has done, it makes me want to help. Just like her, when I see and hear about the poor, it makes me sad. I think that even my little contribution to help can make the percentage of poor go down. So, I’m going to try to help staring now, by doing whatever I can. Every Sunday now, I will try to bring an offering to church, of at least one dollar. That dollar could really help someone out in the world. Also, whenever we have a donation at school, or anywhere else, I will do my best to help out the best I can. And now whenever I’m out shopping, and a store is having a donation, I will donate money. I never used to, but I’m starting now.
Now you can see how kindhearted and selfless Mother Theresa really was. Out of all of the heroes in the world today, she was definitely one of a kind. “When a person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed.” - Mother Teresa
