Melissa Thacker

by Gabby from Pickerington

Always live your own life the way you want to not as others want you to. Be the best you can be and treat others the way you want to be treated and anyone can be a hero - Melissa Thacker

Definition:
A hero is someone you can look for and find through whatever situation. Through the good and the bad & the happy and the sad you can depend on this person to be there through everything. There to wipe tears, there to laugh with, there to cheer you up through anything and most important there to catch you when you feel like falling.

Is it important to have a hero?
I personally think its not important to have necessarily a hero but a role model, yes.

These positive figures in your life can change so many different choices in your life that you tend to make on the daily. Some also can just save your life which is what a majority of people think of when thinking of "hero" but everyone thinks of different figures when the word hero is brought up.

My personal Hero :
Melissa Thacker, my mom, would be the biggest hero in my life. She is a single parent raising 3 kids on her own. If it wasn't for the guiding of my mom only God knows what path I would be leading on. When I have my definition of a hero my mom fits right in it, whenever something is on my mind she is there no matter what time of the day or where she is at she will stop what she's doing to talk to me about my problems or of course her problems. Together we make a team. Through thick and thin I will always be here for my mom and no matter what I know she will always be here. Most girls or guys keep distance from their parents, this would not be me. She has been there to patch up my scabs, hold me through broken hearts and there by my side laughing right along with me. When i look back at all the times and try to find one more person who could possibly fit into my hero category there is nobody else who pops into my head likewise my mom.

Hall of Fame:
What parent can you think of who is raising 3 kids on her own and still has time, money and love to give for each kid. My mom is that parent, "can't & never" is 2 words that you will never hear my mom say. Working a full time job and keeping up with a house and 3 active kids and still after 14 years I've never had my mom tell me she won't be able to make it to any of my track events. That is what I call a hero, being able to depend on her at all times and feeling like she solves all of my problems with just simple words. When you sit and think of heroes, you usually think of characters, made up characters. Not me, my hero is the woman who made me and is still supporting me with ease and who will always be at my side.

Learning about my hero's hero;
1. Do you consider yourself a hero? :
No I do not consider myself a hero.

2. Who is your hero & if so why?:
My hero is my regional manager from work. 1st off she is a cancer survivor. She was raised by a single mother of 5. She quit school in order to help her mother with finances and care for her siblings. She later in life buried herself in books in order to go back and get her GED and eventually put herself in college. She has lived a very troubled life but to meet her you would never know it, she always has a smile on her face and has a heart of gold.

3. When you think of a hero what comes to mind? :
To me anyone who would walk in her footsteps would have given up on life a long time ago but she continues to fight for hers. When I think of a hero I think of someone who has influenced or touched someone else's life.

4. What characteristics does a hero need? :
not racist or judgmental, takes chances, lifesaver, full of life and love, and a fighter.

5. Do you think it's important to have a hero? :
I think it's healthy to maybe have a person you look up to or admire in some ways.
