Matej Zupan

He's a life and music hero, because he's a good flautist and he puts family in first place. 

Matej Zupan was born in 1970. He comes from a music family. He spent his childhood in Zagorje. He attended Elementary school Ivan Skvarca and Music School Zagorje too. When he was 6 years old,  he started playing block flute with Ervin Plevnik. Rado Selic, Professor Ivan Jerin and Professor Marija Lavric taught him flute. When he was a child, he says he wasn't very keen on practicing the flute, but his mum was strict and today he is a famous flautist. After primary school he went to Music High school to Ljubljana. When he was in his fourth year, he won on a  competition in Novo Mesto by a 100 points and that has changed his relationship to music. He completed his graduate and post graduate studies at the Academy of Music at University of Ljubljana under Professor Fedja Rupel. Now he's Professor at Academy of Music in Ljubljana. Since 2010 he's the president of Jeunesses Musicales Slovenia. He's really good at what he's doing. 

He's married to Urska Krzisnik and they've got two children: Miha and Matic. In 2009 a terrible news hit them. Miha had a tumor in his head and he had an operation, chemotherapies and radiations. At that time Matej cancelled his tour in America. He put family in front of his career. 

Why is he my hero?

Because he's good at what he's doing. He's an excellent flautist and I admire him since I play flute myself. What is even more important to me is the fact that his family is the most important thing in his life and he puts his family in front of his career.
