Michael Jordan, many people say, was and still is the best to ever pick up a basketball. Ever since I was a little boy I have always been by Michael Jordan to play basketball. Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York but his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina where he was raised. He played high school basketball at Laney High School where his jersey is still hanging today. In Wilmington there is a section in a museum and, it has everything of Michael Jordan's from his kindergarten diploma, to his college uniform.

He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he kept his high school number 23. UNC is also where he got his nickname Air Jordan. He played at UNC until he was a junior then he went to perform for the Chicago Bulls. In 1985 he won the Rookie of the Year award with the Bulls.

Michael Jordan is my hero because in 1993 he showed that he really could do the impossible, right after he and his team came into the locker room from a first half that was not going their way he got some bad news, his dad had been killed in a robbery. This was a big obstacle for him to overcome, and he met the challenge. He went on to play the game of his life in the second half. After the game he retired.

During the 1995 season Michael Jordan returned to the NBA. In 1996 he led his team to their fourth championship with Michael on their team. In those championship games he also won his fourth MVP award. In 1997 he led his team to back to back championships. His career came to an end when he won his sixth championship on a last second shot at the buzzer to beat the Utah Jazz in 1998. And also in 1998 he won his only gold medal in the Olympics.

Michael Jordan is my hero because he went through tough times and came out on top, he came back only to be at his best. Everybody thought he was the best, but most of all he inspired me to do my best at everything I do. This is why Michael Jordan is truly my hero!
