Michelle Kwan is a hero because she worked her way to the top of the skating world. She did this by hard work, practice and never giving up on her dream. She showed that everyone has a talent and showed that everyone can do anything if they just believe in themselves. She also taught that you should never give up on your dreams. Keep on trying and you will get better.

Michelle was born July 7th, 1980, in Torrance, California. She had a sister named Karen. Michelle began skating at the early age of 5. Michelle entered and won a competition when she was only 7 years old. She always knew she wanted to skate in the Olympics. In 1992, when she was only eleven, she took a senior skating test even though she was still a young girl. She passed it but her coach was mad at Michelle because he thought she needed more experience in her age group. She also needed more experience with her artistic abilities.

Michelle's had many challenges in her life. One of her challenges was that she had to go to a one room school. It was difficult for her family to move and let Michelle skate. Michelle finished poorly in 9th place at the U.S Junior Nationals. Her coach was mad at Michelle because she passed the Senior test but her coach wanted her to be a junior because a level up was too mature for Michelle.

Michele Kwan has accomplished a great deal in her young life. Their family stayed in a cabin while Michelle trained. She was with her family only on weekends. Michelle had to skate three hours each day while going to school too. She had many skating awards in her life. She was an Olympic silver medalist in the 1998 winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. She was the First skater to get 8 6.0 scores at the U.S figure skating championships. Michelle was the youngest senior skater during 1992-93.  She got second place in the U.S Championships 1993. Michelle landed six triple jumps. At the 1994 U.S championships Michelle got second place, in 1995 at the world championships she got 4th place, in 1996 she got 1st place in the U.S championships, at the 1998 Winter Olympics she got 2nd place, at the 1999 U.S championships she got 1st place, in 2000 U.S championships she got 1st place, and at the 2001 U.S championships she got 1st place.

Michelle possesses many quality traits that helped her to be successful in her career. One of Michelle's quality traits was that she was mature for her age. Michelle's second quality trait was that she was amazing. Michelle was in the Olympics and performed 6 triple jumps. Michelle's third quality trait is her athletic ability because Michelle can do jumps, spins, and even spirals. An important lesson that Michelle taught me is that if you believe in yourself and never give up on your dream just like Michelle did, you can do anything . Also she did so much work to get that far in her skating career and if she got down she would pick herself right up again.  Even if she lost a competition she still loved her skating career. As Michelle always said never give up on your dream.
