Mario Lemieux

Mario Lemieux was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in 1993. Mario Lemieux is a hero of our generation. He is generous enough to make a charity for different activities. Mario Lemieux showed great courage in his fight through Hodgkin's disease. Mario Lemieux is also very determined to keep the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh. Without Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh would be a very different city.

Mario Lemieux is generous enough to create a charity that has a main goal to find a cure for cancer. The Mario Lemieux Foundation donated five million dollars to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The charity also supports the McGowan Institute, the Leukemi Society, the Lupus foundation, and the Children's Hospital Of Pittsburgh. The biggest event that the charity, holds is the Mellon Mario Lemieux Celebrity Invitational. That is a golf tournament, which is the biggest fundraising event for the charity. Overall the charity collected millions of dollars for the city of Pittsburgh.

Mario Lemieux showed great courage during his fight against cancer. With his treatments, he stopped playing hockey for one month. He was able to play a game the same day as his final treatments. Even with his cancer Lemieux was still able to win the scoring race and the Hart Trophy for League M.P.V. He proved that even with his cancer treatments he was still able to finish his hockey season.

Mario Lemieux is very determined to keep the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh. When it looked like the Penguins were going to go bankrupt, Lemieux stepped in. He got together a business restructuring plan that involved assembling a new team of investors. With the new investors Pittsburgh was able to break even with their money problems. Today Lemieux is a majority owner and now took over as Chairman of the Board, Chief Officer and President of the Penguins.

Mario Lemieux is a hero of our generation. Lemieux is a courageous person who is determined to keep the Penguins in Pittsburgh. He was also very generous to create his charity. He is not only a hockey player, he is a hero that has done many great deeds in his lifetime.
