Mickey Mantle is a hero for loads of reasons. He would always care for the homeless, and he donated one of his Yankee paychecks to the charity center. He is also a hero because he brought the Yankees to many World Series. Mickey is a hero because when he had an injury, the doctor said he would never play sports again, but he just kept going. He taught kids to never ever give up. As you can see, Mickey was a strong-hearted hero.
Mickey's early life had plenty of pleasures for him. He learned the rules of baseball. He lived with his dad (Mutt), his mom (Lovell), and his grandpa in the town of Commerce. His family had little money but it didn't matter to Mickey. He just loved baseball. He had good education, but he would start thinking about playing baseball at the end of the day. Mickey's worst class was math because he would hardly ever pay attention at all. Mickey wasn't always the sharpest crayon in the box in his early ages.
Mickey had many problems and challenges in his life. One example of a problem was that his family had very little money. When Mickey was in high school, he played football and he suffered a disease in his leg. The doctor said he wouldn't play sports again. Later in his life his grandpa died of Hodgkin's disease. Then his father died of it later in his life also. Mickey was challenged when he was trying to beat Babe Ruth's record of sixty home runs in one season. But Roger Maris was trying to beat the record also. Mickey had about fifty-five home runs and so did Roger. Suddenly when Mickey tried to make a catch, he sprained his ankle. In the end, Roger beat the record. When Mickey he didn't win, he would always try his best.
I will tell you about some contributions Mickey made. Mickey would always donate money to charity, and he would give presents to the homeless on Christmas Eve. He taught kids to never give up on what they were doing. He also taught kids to always believe in themselves. Mickey would do everything he could to help anyone.
Many people around the world have learned about the man Mickey Mantle. Some people know who Mickey is because he won three MVP (Most Valuable Player) awards in his career. He also won the American League Gold Glove award in 1962. People know of him because he taught them to never give up on what they were doing and to always believe in themselves. Mickey Mantle was on the American All Star Team in 1963. Other people know of Mickey as the rookie who brought the Yankees to the World Series numerous times. In 1974 he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1999 the Yankees retired the uniform number nine in honor of Mickey. This is why Mickey is a true legend. Three important traits that describe Mickey Mantle are courageous, helpful, and caring. Mickey was courageous when he had the fear of death because he had a disease called Osteomylitis. He was also courageous when he played football against huge people. Another reason why he is courageous is that when the fans were booing him he still gave baseball all he had. Mickey was helpful when he helped his family move to New York City so he could continue to play on the Yankees. He was also helpful when his wife was pregnant. Mickey helped kids world wide to learn the rules of baseball. Mickey was caring when he donated money to charity. He was caring when he gave presents to the homeless too. These traits describe the strong hearted man known as Mickey Mantle. In conclusion, I think Mickey Mantle was a respectful, strong hearted man. He was a hero for many people admired him for being good at baseball, or for caring for others, but unfortunately, he died on August 13, 1995.
