My hero is Manuel Aristedes Ramirez. He is usually known as Manny. He plays left field for the Boston Red Sox. Manny was born in 1972 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He moved to the Bronx and Graduated from George Washington High School and was named the New York Public High Schools Player of the Year. In 1999 Manny was inducted into the New York High School Hall of fame with many other great athletes including Bobby Thomson, John Franco, Shawon Dunston and Nate "Tiny" Archibald.
My hero has been one of the most dominant hitters in all of baseball for the last 12 years. In 11 of the last 12 years he has had over 100 Runs batted in, and over his whole career many amazing numbers. His career batting average is .314, which is very high for anyone, let alone a power hitter, his on base percentage is .411 which is amazing, and his slugging percentage (hitting with runners on base) is a staggering .600. With all of these hall of fame numbers, and his crazy antics, he has become one of my favorite players.
My hero lives in Boston during the baseball season, and has a pretty dang cool apartment. During the offseason, Manny and his family live in a gigantic house in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My hero was born a while ago, he lives now, and he still has a few good years of baseball in front of him.
I chose Manny as my hero because of the way he plays baseball. He doesn't just have fun playing baseball, he makes everyone watching him have fun and love the game. His swing is so amazingly perfect and consistent, I don't know how anybody cannot love watching him swing the bat. That is why Manny Ramirez is my hero.
