Maria is a big inspiration to me. Everyone in the netball team calls her "Ria" as that is her nickname. She is a great New Zealand netball player. She plays GA (goal attack) and GS (goal shoot) for the New Zealand Waikato Magic. She mostly plays goal attack. She was awarded the top shooter in 2006 and was called into the Silver Ferns team for the Fisher & Paykel series against England and she accepted. This was a great achievement in her career.

Maria was born on 18th February, 1987. She is currently 23 and doing very well for her age. She was born in the town of Tokoroa, New Zealand. She played for the Auckland Diamonds from 2005 to 2007. She was also on the Silver Ferns Squad for 2005 till 2009, switched to Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and is now playing for Northern Mystics. Two of Maria's highlights in the 2008 season with the Silver Ferns were two strong performances against Australia.

Maria is a very accurate shooter from the edge of the D (top of the shooting area). When she first shot the ball into the goal from the top of the circle, she got it in. Spectators were very impressed.

I am very inspired by Maria Tutaia and wish to be very successful in netball. That is why she is my hero.
