Naguib Mahfouz

Everyone of us has someone who affects our character a lot and inspires us. This person is a hero. I like reading a lot and writing poems since I believe that it's important for improving my language. I like expressing my feelings in the form of poems because it helps me feel relaxed. So, of course my hero is someone who's a great writer and who wrote a lot of incredible novels. His name is Naguib Mahfouz. I adore his work because of the way he expressed his feelings.

Now, let me tell you about this great man. He was born in Cairo in 1911. He began writing when he was seventeen.

"From his famous writings: Bayn al Qasrayn, Qasr al Shawq, Sukkariya (Between-the-Palaces, Palace of Longing, Sugarhouse) The Thief and the Dogs (1961), Autumn Quail (1962), Small Talk on the Nile (1966), and Miramar (1967). Until 1972, Mahfouz was employed as a civil servant, first in the Ministry of Mortmain Endowments, then as Director of Censorship in the Bureau of Art, as Director of the Foundation for the Support of the Cinema, and, finally, as consultant on Cultural Affairs to the Ministry of Culture. He is now the author of no fewer than thirty novels, more than a hundred short stories, and more than two hundred articles. Half of his novels have been made into films which have circulated throughout the Arabic-speaking world. In Egypt, each new publication is regarded as a major cultural event."

It is no surprise that my great hero would have received a prize for his work and novels. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1988. A lot of people around the world appreciate his work, and he has made the Arabs so proud. By the way, he was the first Arab writer who won the Nobel Prize.

He died at the age of 94 and, of course, his death affected all of the Arab world, and his death is definitely a loss for the entire world.

Naguib Mahfouz has inspired me so much. He is a very good role model and I hope I can be just like him in the future. I wish to be popular and and make a lot of fabulous achievements like him. Whenever I start writing a poem, I just remember him and what he achieved. It helps me to continue to follow my dreams to become a writer and try to make them come true. I can't hide the fact that I have a lot of other poet heroes, like Jane Austen, William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. Each of them has his/her own way of writing which helps me a lot in writing my own poems.

I hope I will be an important writer in the future like Naguib Mahfouz. I'm sure that I'll achieve my goal since I have a very strong will, and "Where there's a will, there's a way."
