Marie Curie and her two daughters

My hero was born on November 7, 1867, to her father Waladyslaw Sklodowska and her mother Bronsitwa Sklodowska in Warsaw, Poland. She is Marie Curie. By 1883, she graduated first in her high school class (not very surprising) and was awarded a gold medal for her outstanding achievements. At the graduation ceremonies at Sorbonne College on July 28, 1894, she took her second honors in mathematics. Professor Lippman, who had been watching the highly gifted young lady, agreed to let Marie work at his laboratory. Only the year before had Marie earned her license in physics, having the top ranking in her graduating class.

In 1895, Marie Sklodowaska and Pierre Curie got married to each other. On September 12, 1897 Irene Curie was born to Marie and Pierre Curie. On the date of 1898, Marie and Pierre discovered radium and polonium. Marie and her husband won and shared the NOBEL PRIZE for PHYSICS in 1903 and the NOBEL PRIZE for CHEMISTRY in 1911.

When Pierre Curie was killed suddenly in 1906, Marie took over his post as a professor at Sorbonne. She became the first female to teach there. Marie was one of the most celebrated scientists of her time because most of the other people in the science field were men.

Marie Curie had two children: Irene and the other's name is not mentioned because of a miscarriage on August of 1903, during her fifth month of pregnancy. She died on July 4, 1934 of overexposure to radiation, at the age of 67.

Marie Curie is a hero to me because she risked her life to save people with a deadly sickness which she got later in her life. The discover of radium and polonium I think is the reason she lived and the reason she died. Marie Curie lived 1867 - 1934.
