Mark Dentzau is a home town hero. Joining the Connecticut National Guard at the age of 18, he joined the 712th Maintenance Company out of Windsor Locks. During those years he climbed the ranks of a Non-Commission Officer. Going to Annual Training around the world, from California to Germany. He's seen the world and its beauties. In 1991, on Annual training in Germany his training was extended for an extra three months because of the Gulf War, Desert Storm. Because his tour only lasted three months, he was never given a Veteran status.
In 1992 after Hurricane Andrew, he was called up once again to give aid to the City of Miami. His job the solely to protect the city from looters. Their unit was successful in stopping dozens of criminals, helping make the city of Miami safe from one of the worst hurricanes ever to hit the State of Florida. For those years after that, he was promoted from a Staff Sergeant to Sergeant First Class.
In 2001, 9/11 had hit out country. Mark was activated to help restore order in city of Hartford, in Connecticut. This only lasted a few days, and then his orders were over. In 2005, he was called up again to give aid to the People in New Orleans, but those orders were also cut short, when his Battalion Commander scrubbed the mission. In 2006 he joined the Leadership Academy as an instructor for Nuclear Warfare. That went short when he was promoted to First Sergeant for the 186th Foxtrot Forward Support Company.
Mark has also been a member of the Honor Guard team for the State of Connecticut. He was been the "Hancho" for the six man casket team for all the funerals of the Soldiers that died in Iraq for the Connecticut Army. Having his face plastered on newspapers and the news, you've probably seen him. Getting training for this position wasn't that easy. To become where he is today in the Honor Guard program, he was trained by the very best from Arlington Cemetery (Fort Meyers).
The 186th Foxtrot is scheduled to go over to Afghanistan in 2010.
